Zi Wei Dou Shu

Belongs to the Chinese Astrology and tells how a person's life can be read and  predicted.
Zi Wei Dou Shu is based on the lunar calender.

Using the year, month, day and time of birth with help of different stars falling on different palaces, we can tell how our life and different aspects of it will look like.

The stars are like spirits that affect our lives and our mind.
Zi Wei Dou Shu gives a complete analysis depending on what kind of stars will occupy the different palaces.
There are 14 Major Stars, 6 God Minor Stars, 6 Harmful Minor Stars and 6 Additional Stars, also a lot of less important minor stars.
This way, we can see how 12 aspects of our life (or Palaces) looks like:

Life Palace

The Four Pillars of Destiny

Is part of the Chinese Astrology and shows how we can read a persons life using different methods.
The Four Pilars of destiny is based on the Solar Calendar.
Starting from the year of birth, the month, the day and time and having it connected to the 5 elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood, can we describe the life of a person.
This method is also called the Eight Characters because each pillar represents two elements.
In Ancient China, time was described with the 5 elements. People could study what kind of properties the future would bring.
Depending on the birth date of a person, we can see what will happen during the life of a person.
Comparing a person's characteristics with time characteristics during different periods of life will give us a picture about how a person's situation in life will be. If he/she will have a good or bad period of life .

The first element is called "the 10 Heavenly Stems" consisting on:
Yang wood, yin wood - Yang fire, yin fire – Yang earth, yin earth – Yang metal, yin metal - Yang water, yin water.

The second element is called " the 12 Earthly Branches" consisting on:
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and
Pig.

I will illustrate a Four Pillars reading with an article written by Master Joseph Yu.

Saddam Hussein - Destiny and Fate

Destiny is the probable path of life of a person engineered according to the qi that prevails at the moment of birth of the person. The path is fixed but it is wide enough for our free will to decide on which side to walk. Let us examine Saddam's natal chart to see what indication we can get from it. He was born on April 28, 1937 at 8:55 a.m.

Hour
Day
Month
Year
+Metal (Geng) -Wood (Yi) +Wood (Jia) -Fire (Ding)
Dragon (Chen) Rooster (You) Dragon (Chen) Ox (Chou)
+Earth (Wu)
-Wood (Yi)
-Water (Gui)
-Metal (Xin) +Earth (Wu)
-Wood (Yi)
-Water (Gui)
-Earth (Ji)
-Water (Gui)
-Metal (Xin)

The Day stem -Wood represents Saddam Hussein. Wood in the month of the dragon has just passed the most vibrant growth stage. It needs water to nourish and suitable trimming (metal) to regulate growth. It needs sunshine (fire) to glorify its beauty and above all, it needs good soil (earth) for a foundation. It will also be good to have other trees (wood) around. It appears that Saddam's chart has all these features and therefore must be a good chart. On closer examination of each element we will know more about the person.

Earth is strongest and most abundant in this chart. It is the wealth element in this chart as wood (Saddam) controls earth (his wealth and women). There is too much earth in this chart and it causes imbalance. Metal is the power element as it controls wood. Saddam is sitting on power (the rooster) and is right next to power (the hour stem). Furthermore, yang metal and yin wood combine indicating that he loves power and he is powerful. The power in this chart is good and in the right amount. Fire is his performance and fame. It is on the year stem but it has no root (there is no fire in the branches). This means that he has spectacular performance but it is not built on firm basis. Water is abundant but they are like underground water and has to be exposed before it is useful.

We can deduce that water is most favorable in this chart. Metal in the chart is favorable but when more comes with time, there is the danger of abuse of power. Fire controls metal and strengthens earth. This is unfavorable. Earth is most unfavorable. Wood is neutral.

Let us examine his luck periods. We include only the major element in the branches.

Saddam rose to power after joining the Ba'ath party in 1957. He became acting deputy chairman, Revolutionary Command Council in 1968-69; deputy chairman in 1969-79; Chairman since 1979. He became President of Iraq since1979. He is also the Prime Minister since 1994. The twenty years from 1964-1983 gave him a firm foundation of absolute power in Iraq by drastic means. His people were living in the reign of terror. He also led Iraq into a decade long war with Iran.

In 1990, he invaded Kuwait. This was the year Geng Wu (+Metal, -Fire). The year stem and branch indicates that he will exercise his power to make himself known. He could have chosen other methods but he chose to go to war. The next year Xin Wei (-Metal, -Earth) was less favorable as there was too much earth. He was defeated by the US-led alliance in the Gulf War. He was, however, able to hang on to power. This is because the luck pillar has strong water in the branch.

During the decade 1994-2003, Saddam accumulated a lot of wealth from black market oil sales. This decade has earth stem and branch which is his wealth element. Although earth generates metal, too much earth actually will bury metal. In this decade, his power will be removed. Let us list the stem and branch of these ten years:

These ten years bring a lot of suffering to the Iraqi people as a result of the sanction imposed on Iraq. Limited amount of oil is allowed to be sold in exchange of food. He grasped the opportunity to accumulate wealth in his own pocket. Probably, during the two years with metal (2000 and 2001), his ambition is aroused again. It is believed that he created mass destructive weapon to prepare for war.

When the United States exerted pressure on Iraq to remove the alleged massive destructive weapons, he preferred resistance to cooperation. This is because of the favorable -Water on the stem of the year. The war could be avoided but he chose to face the war. What is the outcome?

The following is what I posted on Feb 6, 2003 to the Four Pillars Yahoo Group that has 180 members. At that time, the world was uncertain whether the war would break out.

The DM [1]combines with Power but unable to transform as the month does not favor the transformation and the year is against the transformation. This indicates that he loves power so much that he thinks he is power himself. The timing (month branch) and the world (year stem) does not allow it.

The power on the hour stem is proper power but he is sitting on unbecoming power [2]. Although he claims that his power comes from democratic election, the fact is that it is power coming from unbecoming source.

Luck Pillar: Wu Xu
Year Pillar: Gui Wei

Gui wants to clash away the only Ding fire on his year stem but Gui combines with Wu and transform into fire first being induced by the fire in Wei. Gui wants to support his DM but now it becomes fire and controls his power. Chou and Wei clash, Chen and Xu clash liberating all the earth, and all those ingredients in the tomb [3]. This bombardment will bury his power - abundant earth to bury metal.

There seems to be bombing to remove the root of his power. He will most likely bargain to leave. His power is buried. He will have to go underground.

The above analysis requires certain depth of knowledge in Four Pillars of Destiny study to understand.

[1] DM stands for Day Master. This refers to the day stem that represents the person as the master of the four pillars.

[2] Power that has the same yin and yang as the DM is proper. This is because of the harmony between yin and yang. Power that has opposite yin and yang as the DM is unbecoming.

[3] Earth branches are the tombs (or storage places) of certain elements. When two earth branches clash, it is like bombarding two safe deposit boxes made of concrete against each other. The earth is splattered. The contents in the safe deposit boxes are liberated.
